introduction
Study of structure of atom will help the student to understand about metals and nonmetals. Their chemical reactions and also various chemical formulas of different chemicals. In the end of complete course relation containing quiz of complete chapter is given. It will help the student to analyse their output of the chapter.
To understand the chapter metals and non metals it is very necessary to know some basics. After completing the the given course student will be able to not only get maximum marks in school examination but he will become able to participate in competitive exams.
In this chapter we will learn atoms and various theory regarding it, Structure of atom with introduction of discovery of electrons, protons and neutrons.
MEANING OF ATOM
The term “atom” comes from the Greek word for indivisible, because it was once thought that atoms were the smallest things in the universe and could not be divided. and
It is defined as the smallest particle of the any element which describes the properties of that element.
There are many theory regarding atoms. But it was Dalton’s atomic theory that claimed that atom is indivisible particle and can not further broken down into more particles.
structure of atom
In reality, atom is made up of many subatomic particles. Scientist discovered sub atomic particles. This show that atom is divisible.
Atom is made up of proton, neutron and electrons.
Discovery of electrons
Electron was discovered by J. J. Thomson in 1897 when he was studying the properties of cathode ray.
J. J. Thomson won Nobel Prize in 1906 for discovering the electron.
